Christmas Ships!

Sarah and the pocket took the ferry over to Russell. A small little community where people go to rent sailboats. The ferries aren't quite as big as those in Puget Sound. Don't expect to go upstairs for a candy bar and cup of clam chowder. To be fair, the ride is about 600 meters long. Someone could make a killing with a toll bridge! The best part about Russel is not its museum of ethnocentrism. Where we were educated on how English whaling communities "expanded" the local Maori culture by taking them aboard as crew and paying them in muskets. This method of payment seemed to exacerbate the "already violent Maori who became exponentially more dangerous with their new payments." Needless to say the anthropologist in Sarah had a hard time swallowing this one. Imagine if you are Maori and still reading this bullshit in 2007!

Life with Sarah is...

The wrapping paper to the left says, " As Joel knows, living with you is...(heaven)." A phrase he coined upon turning up at our apartment on one of Sarah's ornery days! One of Sarah's many chocolate, or chocolate like products recieved on chocolate day, I mean christmas.

One thing about the weather in KeriKeri, is that its constantly changing. So the marshmallow thing didn't so much happen at the beach. Oh well, thats what fireplaces are for!

broken ozone

p.w. and his club 300. Yea baby!
This is the post yachting pic. So were his short's legs two different lengths or what? Damn Ozone layer! Do your job!

lake pics

sweet paulie, enjoying the water on christmas day. about 80 degrees and sunny! We learned that this rather big lake is man made, and used as a irrigation reservoir. Our new favorite spot, only ten min drive from the KeriKeri house.

New Pictures

well guys, lets see if this works...could be a whole new world! this little video is paul in his newly bought boat. As you can see he is also wearing my hat, since he has a tendency towards getting a bit pink. Or in New Zealand, what they call 'wind burn'...."men don't get sunburned, they get windburn" By the way, I will post some pictures of what happened to P.W.'s arms and legs where the hat wasnt able to protect. Ouch!

Merry Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Everyone~

We are imagining you all in your cozy houses, sitting by the fireplace, eating really yummy fatty foods, snowed in of course! Maybe we are idealizing it a bit...but we really miss you and wish that we could be enjoying the cold cozy weather with you.
Seems weird to have Christmas in 80degree weather. It looks like it is just going to be P and I this Christmas. The Parkinson's are all off at their respective Christmas celebrations, we are starting to miss them too:)
JulieAnn wisely suggested that P and I come up with our own unique Christmas celebration that will be a new tradition for the family of Sarah and Paul. We have thought about it a lot and have landed on s'mores. Already a favorite of ours, this Christmas s'more tradition will work equally well by our fireplace at home as it will on the beach here in New Zealand. So now you can picture us snuggled up by the campfire on the beach roasting Christmas hotdogs and making s'mores.
we wish you all the love and happiness that this time of year seems to bring. Know how loved you all are even from thousands of miles away.
Merry Christmas! Happy Silly Season, as the Kiwi's call it.
xoxo, S&P

beautiful birthday boy

pretty paulie pocket....

P.W. 26th Birthday!

Well guys! The fat pocket is 26yrs today. I wanted to give you all a heads up so that you could send him lots of money and presents! :) just kidding, but birthday wishes would make his day.
I am taking him out to breakfast this morning at that cute little cafe in the pictures for some coffee and scrabble. Then we are off to see a matinee at our favorite little theatre. if the weather holds we will head down the beach for some ice cream and a nap in the sun. Then this evening we have a reservation at a beautiful little Japanese restaurant with the Parkinson's and friends. And Then..... nope that's all folks. (well, actually we will probably wonder down the hill to the little Irish pub for drinks and music, then stumble home to bed) Big Day.
All our love

fave cafe

pretty little columbus cafe

Hair Chop! in time for x-mas

this little cafe is the perfect slightly quiet, yet still central place to play scrabble and people watch. across the street is a pretty sizable scrap metal yard, interestingly placed in the middle of the city. we love this spot.
this cute little trailor is called the pop-top...could be even cuter than mom and dads airstream, but certainly not as beautifully decorated inside. :)
our new dream home. Tiniest little house, and with a plucked sheraton sign attached to the front this is where I want to be!
new hair cut! sexish jes?
Merry almost christmas! Just a couple of new pics for you

Here was our nice little river home for 3 days. It looks nice doesn't it! Mind the sand flies! And the green comes with a price - lots of rain!

So...we kinda got out of town in a hurry and didn't get fuel for the stove. This meant sausages over the campfire for 3 nights! And plenty of cheap Australian Syrah and Roald Dahl - funny as hell!
Right after this shot was taken we were asked to move...because they were about to blast!? What were they talking about...so we walked to the top of the hill to check it out!

So what do you need a giant pump house like this for....umm pumping out water from New Zealand biggest ecological nightmare! This is huge gold and silver strip mine in the beautiful coastal town of waihi. About ten minutes from our little fishing river. We also found the best little cafe/bakery yet! Good coffee, amazing pastries and plenty of scrabble!

Sky tower flea market!

Here is Sarah's favorite weekend escape. Either buying cheap imports, or riffling through the antique dealer's bounty.

Day after the 21st b-day we took Marc to the beach. Marc found it easy to spot clams by the end of the day - dig them up- then throw them in the water - proving clams also can fly.

Bouncy Castle!!

back in town

hey all!
how's Christmas planning going? We hear that they got four feet of snow in Trout Lake last week. This information may be killing P. softly since all he thinks about is the cross-country skies he bought last season gathering dust in the closet.
There is a huge(4,000+people in attendance) Christmas concert going on in the domain this evening. From the front porch we can hear the carols lofting over the hill. Would be nice to go down and watch except that Paul is working at Portside this evening and I have come down with a stomach bug :( yuck!
So, instead I have rented some movies and am trying to relax on the couch home alone. Hard to relax when you know all this other cool stuff is going on.
well, miss you, hope all is well, write soon!

in the coromandel

Hey guys,
Well we have buggered off to the most beautiful little beach town called Waihi. We have just finished soaking for the past two hours in hot mineral pools. Plus we each got a shower! What a little luxuries that is after three days of camping.
Pauly is in heaven because our tent backs right into a gorgeous little stream, full of trout! Chris Parkinson recommended this little treasure of a place and we are so grateful. We camp for free and come into town for food, social stimulation, and of course COFFEE! Pauly gets a bit grumpy without his daily cup.
The only downside to this adventure are these little pests they call the 'sand flies' should be called nasty little bitch fly! Horrid bites, stingy welts, and our ankles now resemble the sausages we have been eating at every meal. Lots of fun!

Well, the meter is running out and we must be off. You are all in our thoughts, love you to pieces...
S, and P of course

Gone Fishin'

The big 21st was last night. Bouncy castle and all. Overall it was a total success. The Parkinson family throw a very classy party and never shock us with their hospitality and generosity. Oh, and they can cook a ham like none other. My favorite part of the night might have been after dinner and dessert when we found out that we got to have "supper" next. A bonus round not apparently known or used enough in the states. Its like dinner all over again. Supper, consisted of a giant leg of pork and little buns. Sweet mercy me! Sarah was in Heaven. However...Sarah and I may have gone to bed at 11 while the party wound down into the wee hours of the morning. I blame the ham and little buns. It never shocks me, Sarah's ability to fall asleep in any situation no matter how loud it can be.

Tomorrow we are off fishing for a few days in Karangahake Canyon. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. From what we hear it is a "nice little stream with Big Stinkin fish." My favorite kind. We should be back by Saturday when I get to come back and work with Jaime at her restaurant near the harbor downtown. I apparently get a little excited around La Marzocco Espresso machines. Her boss needed some help, and I wound up with a little work! Should be nice to make a little coffee for a few days.

Love you all.

good morning/day

Good Morning all~

Well, this morning Pauly and I went on a walk/run? around the Domain. Which is a beautiful huge park, in the center of which are the enclosed gardens, and the memorial museum. Today there were about 500 Maori boys and girls playing cricket on the fields, we are still perplexed by this game.
We are off now to go do a little cleaning for grandma, and then we are back to set up the tent for Fran & Jaime's huge 21st bash tomorrow. We will be taking plenty of pics of that..sounds like it is going to be quite a party. They are even setting up a huge bouncy castle! You know where we will be.
Just wanted to check in, thank you all again for the posts, and tell you how much we love and miss you people. Keep writing, we eat it up!
Love S&P

Monday at the Beach

Hey all~
well nice day at mission bay today...yes that is the beach. and yes it is only a five minute drive from 'home'. Not bad incentive for you people to visit.
We have good news today..we have managed to land a house sit in KeriKeri over x-mas, and Chris is letting us borrow his car to get up there. Which means....WE DON'T HAVE TO RIDE THE BUS!!!!! HOORAY!
Paul managed to get me to go hiking for the second time today. A thirty minute hike up Mt.Eden. No mosquitoes dad, and chocolate at the finish line. Sounds like he is catching on huh?
Well we miss you all...love your posts. feeling very loved, missed, if a bit patronized! No Matter, we know it comes from the heart.
My love,always
